Hey, Diddle Diddle

– This song is another of the Mother Goose songs. The melody reminded me of “Hey, Good Lookin'” by Hank Williams Sr., so I went for it. Thanks to Keith Cary for adding the steel guitar.

Hey, Diddle Diddle
The cat and the fiddle
The cow jumped over the moon
The little dog laughed to see such sport
And the dish ran away with the spoon
Hey, Diddle Diddle
Hey, hey hey, Diddle Diddle

Hey, Diddle Diddle
Monkey in the middle
Banjo on his knee
A little bird perched on either side
Singing sweet harmony
Hey, Diddle Diddle
Hey, hey hey, Diddle Diddle

I never saw a purple cow
I hope I never see one
But I can tell you anyhow
I’d rather see than be one
Hey, hey hey, Diddle Diddle

Hey, Diddle Diddle
Grits on the griddle
Sweet potato pie
Biscuits and gravy, Tennessee eggs
And flapjacks stacked to the sky
Hey, Diddle Diddle
Hey, hey hey, Diddle Diddle

Hey, Diddle Diddle
Little by little
The party came to an end
The band played their last Hank William’s song
And we waved goodbye to our friends
Hey, Diddle Diddle
Hey, hey hey, Diddle Diddle
