“What are fossils?” you may ask
Fossils can be found in rocks or in the ground
Fossils are clues from the past

No one’s ever seen a dinosaur
So how can we be sure they were real?
Scientists found their bones in mud that turned to stone
Their history was revealed

Fossils can be fish, plants or shells
Skeletons or footprints in the sand
Or insects that were trapped in hardened sticky sap
Fossils have helped us understand
