Welcome Back

It’s the week after Labor Day and we all know what that means… It’s BACK TO SCHOOL

Some kids miss their friends over a long summer vacation and can’t wait to get back. Some kids remember how much homework they get on a daily basis and would like more vacation. The teachers I’ve talked to would like a little more vacation as well. And who can blame them. In the Sacramento Unified School District, class size for Kindergarten and 1st grade has risen from 25 students to a maximum of 32. That’s a lot. Adding 6 or 7 cats to the herd is not a pleasant situation. So when you go to your first “Back To School” night next week, give your child’s teacher a few kind words and a pat on the back. A little appreciation will go a long way.

As for me, I’ll be back in the saddle and riding high next week with a full schedule. 5 elementary schools, 2 preschools, and 3 libraries. Here’s what my day will look like on Tuesday. I start off with a morning Kindergarten class, then a preschool, then Fair Oaks Library, back for an afternoon Kindergarten class, followed by two 2nd grade classes, and then finish the day at Belle Cooledge Library. That’s 7 sessions and the busiest I get. Am I bragging or complaining? Actually, neither. I’m telling you so if you see me pull a song list out of my pocket, you’ll know I’m trying to keep track of where I am and what I’m doing. I love what I do and I only want the best for everyone I’m singing to. Everyday I am thankful that I can share my music with so many of you and your kids. I’m grateful that the Sutterville, Bret Harte, Camellia Basic, Hollywood Park, and Crocker-Riverside elementary schools have asked me to return this year. Same goes for the Sutterville and Tiny Tot Time preschools. Excitement is in the air and I’m excited too. Bringing “songs that teach” to the youngest students of all is my mission and a privilege, not just my job.

Lastly, a quick word about the libraries… It gladdens my heart to see families and friends from the Valley Hi Library making the road trip to see me at the other libraries where I sing. I know it’s a long drive, especially at rush hour. I really appreciate it. Thanks to everyone for your continued support of my music. I’ll be seeing you soon…
