John w: guitar

Here is a picture of my son, John, rocking out on the slide guitar (see the “Duane Allman” Coricidin bottle) at the age of 3. It was the last time he touched a guitar. Oh well…

Monday (tomorrow) begins the last week of school. It’s been a long year for me, but also a fun one. 7 elementary schools, 2 preschools and 3 libraries on a regular basis have kept me busy since September. But all of that is about to change very soon. Summer is right around the corner and I’ll be working on a new CD and other projects. My schedule may slow down a bit, but the songs continue.

First, let me update you on the condition of my eyes. For those of you who haven’t been following along, I was diagnosed last December with a genetic eye disease called Fuch’s Cornea Dystrophy. In January, I had cataract surgery on my right eye and in April, a partial cornea transplant. My doctor said both procedures went very well, but the fact remains that I am still having trouble seeing clearly. I realize now it’s going to take a while. Sometime around the end of June, I’ll be having the same two operations on my left eye. Hopefully, by September when school starts again, I’ll be good to go. Up to this point, all is well and moving ever forward. Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. If I miss a week or two at the library, you’ll know the reason why. And speaking of libraries…

Here is a library update for the next three months. Belle Cooledge Library has extended music time well into late August. It’s my neighborhood library and I am so thankful I can continue singing there every Wednesday at 4:00 pm. And the Pocket – Greenhaven Library has booked me for music time there into 2015! We meet on the last Tuesday of every month at 11:00 am and I thank everyone there for the support. But here’s the big news… Just when it looked like the Sing-Along Club would have to end at the Colonial Heights Library, the Anonymous Donor (AD) has stepped up again and funded the residency through the end of 2014!!! WOW. That’s 25 Thursdays starting in July and lasting all the way through December. I cannot thank this family enough, even though I have tried my best multiple times. I continue to be blown away by their generosity. My heart is filled with gratitude for each and every one of you who comes to the library to sing and join in with the fun. Please keep track of all live shows by visiting the “Live Shows” page.

There are two (2) big concerts coming up this summer. The first is the June edition of the “Music in the Park” concert series in Curtis Park. If you’ve been keeping track, you know that this is one of my favorite gigs of the year. A beautiful park, lots of shade, a big stage, great sound, and 2 hours of music make this a wonder-filled evening for the whole family. You gotta be there. Circle you calendar now… Sunday, June 29, starting at 6:00 pm. And I have been asked back to perform a set of songs at Fairytale Town as part of their “Cat & the Fiddle” concert weekend. I’ll be performing on Sunday morning, August 10, starting at 11:00 am sharp. I had a great time last year and saw many familiar faces. Let’s do it again. Be there and square.

And as I said earlier, I’m recording a new CD this summer. If you hear a new song or two at the library or a concert, chances are good that it will be on the new disc. There’s a whole bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes. The next three months are looking to be exciting ones. Please sign up for the newsletter, “like” me on Facebook, leave a nice comment on iTunes, or just say “hi” if you see me at the store. I appreciate it all. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Have a great summer and stay cool…
